Big wins in first round football playoff games boosted the standing of the three Sonoma County teams in the North Coast Section Top 20 rankings.

Rancho Cotate, Casa Grande and Cardinal Newman each moved up two spots in the ranking from heading into the quarterfinals Friday and Saturday.

A shutout win at home helped Rancho Cotate rise to No. 11, and Casa Grande blanked its opponent in round one and moved up to No. 12 in the rankings. Cardinal Newman’s effort helped the Cardinals to the No. 13 spot.

The Cougars (10-1) get Clayton Valley (5-5) on Friday and the Gauchos (10-1) face Northgate (9-2) on Saturday, both at home. Cardinal Newman (8-3) goes to Bishop O’Dowd (10-1) on Friday. All game times are 7 p.m.
