The Empire is well represented in the North Coast Section football playoff semifinals and one squad will seek a title in games this week.
Friday’s slate of contests:
–Casa Grande (11-1) goes to Concord (11-1) after the Gauchos shut out Northgate 43-0 and the Minutemen eliminated Maria Carrillo 46-20 in Division II.
–Cardinal Newman (9-3) visits Miramonte (11-1) after the Cardinals took out Bishop O’Dowd 56-35 and the Matadors shut out San Marin 23-0 in Division III.
–Middletown (11-1) hosts Healdsburg (8-3) after the Mustangs defeated El Molino 27-13 and the Greyhounds took care of Fort Bragg 41-20 in Division IV.
Saturday’s games:
–Rancho Cotate (11-1) is back at season opening opponent Pinole Valley (11-0-1) after the Cougars defeated Clayton Valley 30-13 and the Spartans outlasted Washington, of Fremont, 38-28 in Division II.
–Tomales (10-2) seeks its first section title since 2002 when the Braves take on Hoopa Valley (10-1) for the Division V title. Tomales handled St. Vincent 26-6 and Hoopa Valley shutdown St. Bernard Catholic 34-0. The contest will be played at Humboldt State University, in Arcata, with a 7 p.m. game time – the same start for all the playoff games.
