Montgomery Pair Have Lady Vikings Back On Track

The inside-outside duo of Anandi Jimenez and Sarah Fitzgerald helped Montgomery take the consolation championship in a tough bracket at the West Coast Jamboree basketball classic, both earning first-team all-tournament honors.

Following a loss to eventual runner up Valley Christian, the Vikings defeated Monte Vista behind 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks from Jimenez. In Wednesday’s consolation finals Fitzgerald scored 15 and pulled down 4 rebounds from her guard position.

Montgomery played in the Topaz Division, one of 16 brackets featuring 150 teams for the tournament held at high schools and colleges throughout the East Bay

For the season, Jimenez – last year’s North Bay League MVP – is scoring 16 points a game and averaging 8 rebounds and 2 blocks.

More a floor leader than a scorer, Fitzgerald chips in 8 points per contest with a pair of assists and steals each a game.

Jimenez and Fitzgerald also were named to the all-tournament teams for the Dragon Classic, hosted by Sonoma Valley, and the Puma Tournament, at Maria Carrillo.

Both are healthy again. Fitzgerald took a blow to the head in a loss to Redwood and Jimenez has been sick.

With nearly a full squad, defending NBL champion Montgomery — 7-3 on the season – has regained momentum heading into league play next week.
