Empire Teams Make NCS Boys’ Basketball Top 20

A foursome of Empire teams made the North Coast Section Top 20 boys’ basketball poll and all won league opening games Wednesday.

Analy is ranked highest at No. 8 in the poll from PrepFeed.com and raised its record to 11-3 by defeating El Molino 83-44 in the Sonoma County League opener. Max Fujii scored 33 and backcourt mate Eli Alcantar added 17 points.

Earning the No. 10 spot in the poll is Montgomery. The Vikings improved to 11-1 with a 68-26 win over Elsie Allen in North Bay League play, led by Ben Freeland’s 19 points and Zack Templeton’s 14 points.

Casa Grande is No. 15, matching Analy’s 11-3 start in the SCL with a win at cross town rival Petaluma. The Gauchos prevailed 68-42 with a big second half paced by Joey Rodriguez who scored 25 points in the contest.

Taking the final spot in the NCS Top 20 is Cardinal Newman, which raised its record to 10-3 with a solid 60-48 win over Ukiah in an NBL match up. Bobby Sharp – 21 – and Xavier McCall – 19 – led the Cardinals. Nate Henry – 22 – and Cesar Mendoza – 18 – helped keep the Wildcats in the game.
