Montgomery, Maria Carrillo Girls Make NCS Top 20

A pair of North Bay League teams – Montgomery and Maria Carrillo – made the latest North Coast Section girls basketball Top 20 poll.

Montgomery, 10-3 overall and 2-0 in league play, is No. 18. Maria Carrillo, 7-5 overall and also 2-0 in the NBL, is No. 19 in the rankings from

Montgomery is favored to win the NBL with All-Empire players Anandi Jimenez, the top scorer and rebounder at forward, and point guard Sarah Fitzgerald back to lead the Vikings.

But the Vikings face tests from Maria Carrillo, Santa Rosa and Ursuline, all with top returning players.

Back for Maria Carrillo are All-League guards Taylor Graham, the Pumas leading point producer, and Aaliyah Sowards, with older sister Madison Sowards a top league forward.

Montgomery and Maria Carrillo face each other for the first time in North Bay League play on Thursday at the Pumas gym. The Vikings defeated the Pumas by 9 points at the Maria Carrillo tournament in December.

The other NBL games Thursday are: Santa Rosa at Ursuline; Rancho Cotate at Ukiah; and Piner at Elsie Allen.

In Sonoma County League action: Casa Grande visits Healdsburg; El Molino faces Windsor; Analy is at Sonoma Valley.
