Ukiah Team To Play In Top Passing Tournament

Led by one of the North Coast Section’s top returning quarterbacks, Ukiah has a team competing against top prep players in a passing tournament on Saturday.

Trevor Taylor, who passed for 2,135 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior, and nine Ukiah teammates will make the trip to San Ramon.

The tournament is put on by Passing Down, a company that hosts football camps to spotlight prep players in California. Passing Down also plans several other tournaments leading to a final later this spring.

Games are seven vs. seven contests. Most of the athletes play both offense and defense.

Playing football in February is well ahead of traditional summer passing camps, including those at Santa Rosa Junior College and Petaluma High School.

Quarterbacks are invited and no coaching is allowed because the event is outside the period allowed for organized practices.

Taylor was one of the top NCS passers based on passing yards, touchdowns and opponent strength. He threw for 214 yards a game with a .602 completion percentage, as well as the 19 scores.

Joining him are returning receivers Michael Michael and Kyle Hammond and backup quarterback Frank Rodriguez. Other returning varsity players are Kyle Wakeland, Austin Macri and Martin Werra. Also on the passing tournament team are Will Hale, Brad Sheehy and Jordon Morris.
