Top Empire Teams Rise In Section Boys Basketball Rankings

League leaders Montgomery and Casa Grande moved up a spot in the latest North Coast Section boys’ basketball poll heading into Wednesday playoff contests.

Montgomery (24-2 overall, 14-0 in league play) is ranked No. 8 in the poll from PrepFeed.com and Casa Grande (22-4/12-0) grabbed the No. 10 spot in the latest poll. The Vikings are eighth in the California Division 2 poll.

Also making the NCS Top 20 were Cardinal Newman (21-5/12-2) at No. 16 and Analy (19-7/8-4) at No. 19. Both teams also are ranked statewide with Cardinal Newman ninth in Division 4 and Analy No. 11 in Division 3.

Postseason play begins with North Bay and Sonoma County league semifinals.

 –Montgomery hosts Ukiah. The Vikings won both NBL meetings with the Wildcats by double digit margins.

–Cardinal Newman entertains Maria Carrillo. The Cardinals took both NBL games from the Pumas including an 8 point win a week ago.

–Casa Grande gets Sonoma Valley at home. The Gauchos have a pair of 15 point wins over the Dragons in SCL play.

–Windsor hosts Analy, just defeating the Tigers on Friday to end the SCL regular season. Analy took the earlier meeting at home.

All game times Wednesday are 7 p.m.

The NBL finals will be played at Santa Rosa Junior College 8:15 p.m. Friday. The SCL finals are at the junior college 8 p.m. Saturday.
