Analy’s second-half rally falls short

Analy couldn’t overcome a poor second-quarter performance and lost, 63-54, to El Cerrito (22-6) in the semifinals of the NCS Division III boys basketball playoffs.

The Tigers jumped out to a 19-15 lead after one quarter, but the second-seeded Gauchos outscored Analy 23-9 in the second quarter to take a 38-28 lead at halftime.

Analy fought back in the second half behind the play of guards Eli Alcantar and Max Fujii. The Tigers outscored El Cerrito 13-6 in the third quarter but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Alcantar scored a game-high 22 points, including nine in the fourth quarter. Fujii finished with 17 for Analy (20-9).

Senior Eric Nelson paced El Cerrito with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Bobby Syvanthong added 11 points and seven assists.
