Casa Grande Takes Wescott Title

Squeezing in games after rains finally passed, Casa Grande won the school’s 14th annual Adam Wescott Memorial baseball tournament.

Both the Gauchos and Cardinal Newman went undefeated in the abbreviated tournament that featured a limited round-robin format. Casa Grande was awarded first place by giving up fewer runs overall in the tournament. Ukiah finished third.

To get the tournament in, Casa Grande moved all but one of the games to Cardinal Newman’s all-weather turf field. Cardinal Newman played the final contest at Ukiah.

Casa Grande defeated Ukiah, Rancho Cotate and Eureka. RJ Busse led Casa Grande at the plate and was the tournament’s top hitter.

Cardinal Newman defeated Ukiah, Eureka and Antioch. Highlighting the Cardinals effort was pitcher Jason Alexander tossing a one hitter in shutting out Antioch. Alexander was the tournament’s outstanding pitcher.

Casa Grande–Chase Stafford, Robbie Rossi, Alex Perez, Busse.

Cardinal Newman—Brandon Calso, Phil Ramos, J.J. Jamerson, Alexander.

Sonoma Valley—Brennan Cole, Kevin Deely.

Ukiah—Jeff Piver, Will Tollini, Lukas Pederson.

Rancho Cotate—Trevor Dodele.
