SRU girls teams lose semifinal matches

The end of a long, highly successful season for a pair of Santa Rosa United girls soccer teams came Saturday morning in Boise, Idaho, as both the U-12 Ice and the U-13 Freeze were defeated in the semifinals of the USYSA Far West Regionals.

After advancing out of pool play and posting a quarterfinal win over a team from Colorado, Ice was shutout, 2-0, by San Diego Surf White. Surf will face Blitz FC Orange from Hawaii in today’s finals.

Freeze came a little closer to making the finals, but lost, 3-2, to Arsenal FC, another SoCal team in the tournament. Arsenal will play Sereno White from Arizona for the U-13 title.

Regional winners advance to the national tournament in Overland Park, Kans, July 20-25.
