All-Empire Golf and Boys Player of the Year

Player of the Year
TONY BOLANDER, Cardinal Newman, Sr.

Prep Golfer of the Year Anthony Bolander of Cardinal Newman.

Well down the league leader board halfway through the prep golf season, Tony Bolander pushed himself and the Cardinal Newman team to finish strong.

Practicing and playing harder after Montgomery ended Cardinal Newman’s 59-match North Bay League winning streak, Bolander led the Cardinals back to the North Coast Section finals. The senior shot with the skill and confidence of the Empire’s Player of the Year.

“After we lost to Montgomery I said, ‘Hey guys, let’s tighten it up and make this season count,’” Bolander said. “Our team became a lot closer and stronger after that.”

Golf’s challenges have driven Bolander to improve as he did this season in averaging just a shot over par in league play.
“It’s such an individual sport. You can never perfect it,” he said.

When not working on his swing, Bolander is playing Northern California junior tournaments and events on the Future Collegians World Tour.

Bolander earned a scholarship to William Jessup University in Rocklin. Walking on at UNLV or USF were options, but Bolander looks to help lead the NAIA program to the national tournament next season.

“I’m ready for college golf,” he said.
