Montgomery Hall of Fame Golf Tournament and Dinner

Posted By Press Democrat Staff Writer Michael Coit:

Montgomery High faithful will tee it up to raise money for the school’s inaugural athletic Hall of Fame dinner.

Golfers can still join the field for the tournament set for Aug. 19 at Bennett Valley Golf Club. Organizers have 112 spots, and last year’s event sold out.

The scramble format promises a fun afternoon with play beginning at 1 p.m. following a noon lunch at the golf club.

A barbecue dinner, also at the golf club, follows the tournament. Bennett Valley Golf Club is at 3330 Yulupa Ave.

Costs are $135 for individuals and $500 for a team of four, which includes the lunch and dinner. Tickets also are available only for the dinner at $30.

Funds raised from the golf tournament help cover costs for the Sept. 10 dinner honoring the first class inducted into the Montgomery High School Hall of Fame.

Seven athletes will be inducted: Mel Gray (class of 1967); Tom Fitchie (1969); Steve Tiedeman (1969); Bob Borowicz (1975); the late Lex Murray (1977); Christina Bell (1993); and Sara Bei (2001). Two coaches also will be honored, Russ Peterich and Marie Sugiyama.

The dinner will be held at the Friedman Center, 4676 Mayette Ave., in Santa Rosa.

The cost is $60 a person. The deadline is Aug. 31.
