All-State Honors For Empire Diamond Stars

A trio of Empire baseball and softball standouts earned all-state honors.
Pitcher Jason Alexander was named to the MaxPreps California All-State Medium Schools Team.
Making the California All-State Small Schools Team was St. Vincent shortstop K.C. Pedersen.
In softball, Calistoga pitcher-first baseman Nicole Taylor was named to the California All-State Small Schools Team.
Each of the seniors led their teams to league titles and captured player of the year honors.
Alexander was Cardinal Newman’s ace, going 10-3 with 82 strikeouts and 0.66 ERA in 84.1 innings, completing six games as well. He was the Empire’s Large School Baseball Player of the Year.
The Cardinals, 23-6, were co-champions of the North Bay League and reached the North Coast Section Division 2 semifinals.
Batting a robust .441, the speedy and powerful Pedersen scored 27 runs, hit five home runs and knocked in 20 Mustangs runners. Co-MVP of the North Central League I South, Pedersen was a first-team Empire Small School Baseball selection.
St. Vincent, 20-6, won the North Central League I South title before being upset in NCS play by eventual champion Redwood Christian.
Taylor, the Empire Small School Softball Player of the Year, enjoyed a breakout season both on the mound and at the plate.

Batting .600, she had 11 doubles, two triples, 41 runs batted in, and also scored 24 runs. The Wildcats workhorse pitcher had a record of 18-4 with 184 strikeouts and 0.46 ERA in 122.2 innings pitched, and also completed 21 games.
Calistoga, 18-5, won the North Central League II South title and reached the NCS Division 5 semifinals, losing to eventual champion Valley Christian.
