Sonoma Academy Adds Baseball To Varsity Sports

Sonoma Academy will field the high school’s first baseball team for the 2012 season and is seeking a head coach.

The move follows much student interest in the sport as Sonoma Academy adds baseball to the other varsity teams the Santa Rosa private school offers: Girls volleyball; boys and girls soccer; boys and girls cross country; boys and girls basketball; boys and girls lacrosse; boys and girls track & field.

“We already have a group of current and incoming students who play baseball year-round and are excited to pioneer our program. With the interest we’ve had in recent years and the students on campus who are primed to play, we are excited about building a baseball program,” said Sonoma Academy athletic director Chris Ziemer.

Sonoma Academy will compete in the North Central League II South with Tomales, Calistoga, Rincon Valley Christian, St. Vincent and Upper Lake. The Coyotes are in Division 5 of the North Coast Section.

Applicants for the head coaching position should have both playing and coaching experience as well as a passion for developing high school athletes, Ziemer said.
