In another coaching move at Sonoma Academy, the school has added Empire running standout Julia Stamps Mallon as assistant cross country coach.

The former Santa Rosa High record setter and Stanford All-American will assist Danny Aldridge.

Still a great runner, Mallon won the Santa Rosa Marathon on Sunday with a time that qualifies her for the U.S. Olympic trials in January.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to work with Sonoma Academy and Danny,” she said. “Our community as a whole has a host of talent in cross country and track and I’m excited and honored to be a part of the program.”

Aldridge, a Petaluma High running great in the 1970s, is in his third year coaching for Sonoma Academy. Both the boys and girls cross country teams won the Coastal Mountain Conference league and championship titles last season.
