The Maria Carrillo girls tennis team continued its undefeated season, cruising to a 7-0 victory over the visiting Wildcats of Ukiah on Thursday.

Impressive freshman Fu Long led the way as the Pumas recorded their ninth shutout of the year.

Long, the Pumas’ No. 1 singles player, was dominant in a 6-1, 6-0 win against Ukiah’s Megan Porter 6-1, 6-0. In her short high school career, Long has a record of 11-1, with her only loss to Montgomery senior Emily Gould.

Maria Carrillo (12-0 overall, 9-0 North Bay League) received a strong effort from Tressa Thomas and Marissa Nguyen, who backed up Long with identical 6-0, 6-0 wins against Ukiah’s Grace Roderick and Madison Klee.

The closest match of the afternoon was the fourth singles match between Emily Kam and Lindsay Maurer, which went Kam’s way 6-2, 6-1.

The Pumas swept doubles play with three wins. Michelle Liang and Sierra Barnachea beat Raquel Contreras and Amelia Hernandez 6-0, 6-0; Nicole Altamirano and Makenna Paule beat Jacey Schram and Ali Loyha 6-0, 6-3; and Kira Deguchi and Anna Carr defeated Olivia Pratt and Aimee Johnson 6-1, 6-0.

Maria Carrillo’s next league games are Rancho Cotate at home, and then the Pumas head to Montgomery for a pivotal matchup.
