They aren’t going to retire Stacey Strong’s No. 10 jersey at Montgomery High on Friday night…well, sorta…
They are going to honor Stacey Strong Friday night at Montgomery High … absolutely.
The Vikings will give Strong the No. 10 jersey she wore while patrolling the Montgomery field as a four-year starter from 2001-04.
After that she went on to USC and helped the Trojans win the NCAA National Championship in 2007.
You can toss on top of that her 4.33 GPA at Monty, her USC degree and her current status as a Trojan dental school student and the Vikings have every reason to honor her.
“We aren’t retiring the number,” Vikings’ head coach Pat McDonald said, “but we are giving her the jersey and we will have different players wear the number during the season. I told Stacey that I just couldn’t look out on the field and see someone wearing that jersey and not think of her.”
There have been many outstanding women’s high school players through the years in the Empire and Strong would have to be among the best.
The brief ceremony will take place at 6:50 p.m. Friday prior to the start of the Santa Rosa at Montgomery game at 7 p.m.
Congrats to Stacey. And congrats to Montgomery for honoring her.
