Empire runners near top of California, Northern California cross country rankings

The Empire’s elite prep cross country runners also are among California’s best based on the latest rankings.

Piner star Luis Luna is third, Alex Connor of Sonoma Valley is fifth, and Jaime Silva, also from Piner, is 11th in the state for Division 3 boys, according to ESPNHS/DyeStatCal. Cardinal Newman standout Alexi Taylor is fifth in California for Division 4 boys, according to the same ranking source.

Moving up to second in the state for Division 3 teams are the Piner boys, according to ESPNHS/DyeStatCal .

In Northern California, the overall boys ranking has Luna first and Conner fourth. Silva earns an honorable mention, according to Cross Country Express.

The Empire’s top girls’ runner, Nicole Lane, of El Molino, is 9th overall in Northern California, according to Cross Country Express.

The Piner boys are third in Northern California and the Maria Carrillo girls received an honorable mention from Cross Country Express.

League championships are in early November with North Coast Section and the CIF state finals to follow.

NBL Championships: Nov. 4, 2 p.m., Spring Lake Regional Park, Santa Rosa.

SCL Championships: Nov. 5, 10 a.m., Spring Lake Regional Park, Santa Rosa.

CMC Championships: Nov. 9, 2 p.m., Fort Bragg.
