Section Soccer Semifinals Match Top Teams

The top North Coast large school boys and girls soccer squads remain on track going into Wednesday's semifinals of the North Coast Section playoffs.

Tamalpais looked every part the top seed on the boys' side with a convincing win over a good Elsie Allen team. Maria Carrillo, ranked four in Division 1, will try to ground the Red Tailed Hawks in Marin County after winning a pair of home playoff games.

Defending champion Montgomery gets a home match with Marin Catholic, which is riding the momentum of an upset win over Analy.
A matchup of league winners sends Casa Grande to top seed Maria Carrillo in girls' Division 1. Casa Grande took down Maria Carrillo for last year's title. This season Maria Carrillo has been the Empire's most consistent team and Casa Grande has not lost since falling to the Pumas early.

Cardinal Newman and Montgomery are title candidates with the Cardinals getting an overtime win from the Vikings after the teams tied the first time out in North Bay League play.

The Cinderella story this post season is Fort Bragg in the Division 2 boys' bracket. The Timberwolves, seeded number 12, need to keep playing stingy defense to have a chance at Marin Academy, the section's top ranked small school team. Fort Bragg has only given up one goal in two playoff wins.

Sonoma Academy battles longtime rival Rincon Valley Christian at Santa Rosa High in boys' Division 3. The teams played to a scoreless tie earlier this season. Sonoma Academy is the two seed and Rincon Valley Christian is sixth, upsetting Drew in the quarterfinals.

The small school girls semifinals have St. Helena goes over the hill to Middletown after winning at Clear Lake. Middletown is the top seed in Division 3.

Sonoma Academy and St. Vincent meet on neutral ground at Santa Rosa high in the other semifinal. Sonoma Academy won both games against their Petaluma rivals this season. St. Vincent is the defending section champion.
