NCS semifinal predictions

We have reached the really fun part of the annual NCS soccer get-together – today’s semifinals.
Win or go home.
No one will remember that you even got this far.
Heck, get to the finals and lose and few will recall your great season.
So, let’s see what is about to transpire:

BOYS
Maria Carrillo at Tamalpais, 2:30 p.m.

Tam has everything going for it – a No. 1 seed, a game on its home field, a gaudy 19-3-2 record, a 7-0 quarterfinal victory over Elsie Allen. The 17-6 Pumas, with a No. 4 seed, are on the outside looking in. Sorry, MC, your chances are slim and none and I’m afraid slim just left town.
Prediction: Tam 4, Maria Carrillo 2

Marin Catholic at Montgomery, 7 p.m.
MC got by the team I thought just might win it all this year – Analy – with an overtime victory at Sebastopol in the quarters. But does that make them the equal to the Vikes?
A resounding – No. The Vikings are just too wel-coached, too deep, too good at home.
Thanks for coming MC.
Prediction: Montgomery 2, Marin Catholic 0

GIRLS
Casa Grande at Maria Carrillo.

Mr. Cortezzo comes to PumaLand in search of another trip to the NCS finals on Wednesday night. Now everyone knows how much I love Mr. Cortezzo. Actually, I think he’s the best pure soccer mind in high school around here. If I had a daughter of high school age I would love for her to play for him. But …
The Pumas are too deep, too talented and just too good this time around. Even Mr. Cortezzo can’t come up with a game plan good enough to derail the Puma Express. Can he?
Prediction: Maria Carrillo 4, Casa Grande 1

Montgomery at Cardinal Newman.
So, I saved the best game for last. The Cardinals, under first-year coach Paul Dixon, are in the semifinals and they got there by easing past Santa Rosa, 1-0. Not real impressive.
Montgomery almost always peaks this time of year. Maybe it’s something in the air, maybe it’s their work ethic, maybe it’s coach Pat. He doesn’t do club soccer, he doesn’t pretend to be a soccer fanatic, he just IS Viking soccer. I don’t know how he does it, he just does.
Prediction: Montgomery 3, Cardinal Newman 2 (OT)
