Basketball Tournaments: REIBT in Healdsburg tips off Wednesday


The 63rd annual REIBT, the oldest basketball tournament in Sonoma County, tips off today with four games at Healdsburg High School.

The invitational went coed in 1984 and expanded to 16 teams (eight boys and eight girls squads).

There will be two girls and two boys games today with the remaining eight teams swinging into action on Thursday. Opening round games begin at 4 p.m.

The tourney concludes Saturday with the girls championship game at 6 p.m. followed by the boys title game at 7:30.

Ukiah, winner of the boys bracket in 2010, will begin defense of its title at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against Amador.

McKinleyville, winner of the girls division last year, opens the same day at 7 p.m. against Rancho Cotate.

Dick Bugarske, the tournament’s historian and longtime announcer, compiled all-time records for the REIBT, This year’s players will be shooting for these records:

Individual single game scoring: Highland’s Bernard Davis 45 points (1979) and Healdsburg’s Carrie Dormire 39 (1991).

Points in a tournament: Healdsburg’s Cheree Tappin 82 (1986) and the Greyhounds’ Dave Reupke 89 (’97).
