Sonoma Academy girls rally past Roseland Prep

Santa Rosa — In a matchup that featured two of the top teams in the North Central II, Sonoma Academy rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Roseland Prep 45-42 Tuesday night. The Coyotes were led by their only senior, Kate Bayes, who had 20 points 13 rebounds.

“The girls stepped up in the fourth quarter,” Sonoma Academy coach Kevin Christensen said.

In a slow first quarter, neither team scored until the four-minute mark and the score was only 7-7 at the end of the quarter.
An 8-0 run by Roseland Prep in the third quarter was led by Karen Melendez and Beatriz Oseguera, and after three quarters, the Knights led 34-28.

In the fourth quarter Sonoma Academy switched to a faster tempo and focused on getting the ball to Bayes. The Coyotes took the lead with 4:01 remaining.

Bayes’ two free throws put Sonoma Academy up 45-42, and Roseland Prep missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
