Healdsburg's Hendrickson wins 3 of 5 at nationals

Healdsburg senior Adam Hendrickson, the two-time All-Empire boys wrestler of the year, went 3-2 at last weekend’s National High School Coaches Association senior wrestling championships in Virginia Beach, Va.

Healdsburg wrestling coach Scott Weidemier said Hendrickson, who finished sixth at 154 pounds in the state tournament, more than held his own against some of the top high school talent in the nation.

“He was right there with the best kids in the country,” Weidemier said. “I think he realized he could compete at that level.”

Two of Hendrickson’s three wins came by major decision, and both of his losses were close. Sixth-place finisher Zachary Kechter of Virginia edged him, 6-5, after a late takedown.
