Trio of girls basketball camps and clinics

The NorCal Academy group of girls basketball coaches is holding upcoming camps and training sessions for girls basketball players in grades three through eight.

A five-week session for third through seventh graders begins the week of June 11 and runs Tuesdays and Thursdays, every week through the week of July 16. The training program will take off the week of July 2 for the Independence Day holiday. Each week consists of two 90-minute training sessions, all conducted within Santa Rosa-area gyms by Sonoma County high school coaches. Past NorCal Academy clinics have included Windsor's Jeff Paul and Erik Oden, Santa Rosa's Steve Chisholm, Sonoma Valley's Sil Coccia, Montgomery's Steve Bell and Rancho Cotate's Doug Haught, among others. The cost for the five-week program is $150 per player. For more information and registration, go to

Additionally, the group is offering a three-day skills camp June 25-27. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon each day at Slater Middle School and is open to girls in third through eighth grades. The fundamentals-oriented camp will be run by current varsity girls players and members of the NorCal Academy's 11th grade team. The cost is $60, with proceeds benefitting the 11th grade team's summer basketball program. For more information, contact Jeff Paul at (707) 483-4005 or jeffp [at] thenorcalacademy [dot] org.

Lastly, Sonoma Valley coach Coccia and Lady Dragons Basketball Camp are coordinating two four-day events at the high school, open to girls ages 8 to 14, with the 13- and 14-year-olds receiving higher level instruction. The first camp runs June 11-14, while the second camp is from July 16-19. Both cost $30 per day. For more information, visit or email Coccia at sil [at] ladydragonbasketball [dot] org.
