Windsor hosts girls basketball shootout

More than a dozen prep girls varsity basketball teams converge on Windsor today to open the Sonoma County Shootout.

The three-day tournament, also featuring junior varsity competition, is hosted by the Windsor High girls program and the school’s boosters. Games are played in both of the Windsor High gyms.

Pool play opens 3:30 p.m. today with eight varsity games scheduled.

Another six games are set for Friday to complete pool play.

Then the varsity teams are divided into gold and silver brackets, based on records. The championship contest is 7:15 p.m. Saturday.

Empire teams entered include many of the top squads from this past high school season: Analy, Casa Grande, Healdsburg, Maria Carrillo, Montgomery, St. Vincent, Santa Rosa, Sonoma, Ukiah and Windsor.

Daily admission: $5 for adults, $3 for students, Free for children age 12 and under.
