The Sonoma County Sol ended a two-year postseason drought with a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over Sacramento on Saturday night at Rancho Cotate.

The win not only eliminated Sacramento from playoff contention but put the Sol in the hunt to possibly earn a top seed in the National Premier Soccer League playoffs.

Ross Middlemiss scored three second-half goals Saturday to lead Sonoma County’s comeback from a 2-0 halftime deficit.

Middlemiss, the Sol’s leading scorer and a former star at Sonoma State, scored twice early in the second half to tie the game 2-2. David Mendez then knocked in the go-ahead score midway through the half for a 3-2 Sol lead. Middlemiss completed the scoring with a late goal.

The Sol finish the regular season next Saturday against San Francisco at Kezar Stadium. Coming into Saturday’s game, Sonoma County trailed Oakland-based Bay Area by one point in the NPSL North West. A win next week coupled with a loss by Bay Area would give the Sol the top seed.
