Men's college soccer: Seawolves beat Bear Cubs, 5-1, in exhibition

ROHNERT PARK — Sonoma State’s men’s soccer team rolled to an impressive 5-1 exhibition win against visiting Santa Rosa Junior College on Sunday.

Five different Seawolves scored Sunday, with goals from Taylor Varnadore, Michel Arroyo, Brian Angel, Aaron Glover and Brenton Frame.

Varnadore and Chris Pihl also had assists for SSU, which outshot the Bear Cubs, 17-4.

Sonoma State plays two scrimmages — against Dominican and Academy of Art — before beginning the regular season Aug. 31 against Saint Martin’s in Phoenix, Ariz.

Varnadore, the team’s leading scorer from a season ago, gave SSU an early 1-0 advantage just 6:07 into the contest.

Just over 20 minutes later, Arroyo connected on an unassisted goal to put the Seawolves up 2-0. After another 20 minutes, Angel joined the Seawolves’ scoring parade, putting SSU up by three at the 48th minute, and the rout was on.
