A look at Saturday's area high school and college football games:

WASHINGTON (0-1) at MONTGOMERY (0-2)
Kickoff: 1 p.m.
Last game: Washington lost to El Camino, 34-12. Montgomery was defeated by Clayton Valley, 57-35.
Notable: This is the first afternoon home game for the Vikings since 2005 … Montgomery won’t have to worry about the lights going out (the Clayton Valley game was called when the lights went off with 4:02 remaining) … Etienne Ezeff, Montgomery’s best player, won’t play today because of an ankle injury suffered against Clayton Valley … Seven other Vikings needed to be helped off the field … Most of those players will suit up and it will be a game-time decision whether they see action … Jason Franci and his staff went to S.F. to scout Washington last Saturday. “They only suited up 25 players and of those, we thought four were good athletes,” the coach said … Missing wide receiver Ezeff hurts, but the Vikings will still prevail.
The pick: Montgomery 28, Washington 13

HERCULES (0-2) at PINER (1-2)
Kickoff: 2 p.m.
Last week: Hercules lost to Mission, 33-21. Piner was defeated by Justin-Siena, 46-6.
Notable: Piner is one of the few teams in the Redwood Empire averaging more yards in the air (178 per game) than on the ground (103) … Quarterback Noel Hernandez has completed 31 passes, eight for touchdowns … Spearheading the running game are Austin Nahmens (130 yards) and Dominic Wilson (123) … Top tacklers through three games are: Nahmens, Wilson and Jacob Pilisdorf … If the Prospectors cut down on turnovers, this is a winnable game.
The pick: Piner 27, Hercules 21

ALMA HEIGHTS (0-1) at RINCON VALLEY CHRISTIAN (2-1)
Kickoff: 1 p.m.
Last week: Alma Heights did not play. RVC lost to Woodside Priory, 44-36.
Notable: In a scheduling rarity, these teams played two Saturdays ago. That game, at Alma Heights, was won by RVC (44-32) … The Eagles prefer to run the ball, averaging 228 yards per game on the ground compared to 63 through the air … Brandon Douglas has been getting the job done on both sides of the ball. The senior’s rushing average is 112 yards per game and he leads his team in tackles with nearly 15 per game.
The pick: Rincon Valley Christian 46, Alma Heights 27

CLOVERDALE (0-3) AT ST. VINCENT (1-1)
Kickoff: 2 p.m.
Last week: Cloverdale was edged by McKinleyville, 52-46. St. Vincent lost to St. Helena, 44-14.
Notable: Cloverdale had the lead until the final minute when McKinleyville scored on a pass play … The Eagles have lost three games by a total of 19 points … The Mustangs were never in the game with St. Helena, trailing 41-0 at halftime.
The pick: St. Vincent 35, Cloverdale 27

MENDOCINO ( 1-0) at POTTER VALLEY (1-1)
Kickoff: 2 p.m.
Last week: Mendocino defeated Stuart Hall, 54-14. Potter Valley lost at Laytonville, 42-20.
Notable: The teams meet again in three weeks … Home field will make the difference today.
The pick: Potter Valley 38, Mendocino 33

SACRAMENTO CITY (0-2) AT SANTA ROSA JC (2-0)
Kickoff: 1 p.m.
Last week: Sacramento lost to American River, 38-23. Santa Rosa defeated Diablo Valley, 28-26.
Notable: Santa Rosa is ranked No. 14 in the state and No. 8 in Northern California … The Bear Cubs have lost four offensive linemen to injuries this season. Dante Cattaneo, formerly of Montgomery High, went down last Friday night … In that game, Windsor alum Christian McAlvain came off the bench to fire a touchdown pass to K’Lan Anderson with 16 seconds remaining to lift SRJC to victory … Starting QB David Sowards is passing for 234 yards per game … One of his favorite targets is Jordan Bergstrom (averaging 90 per game) … Anderson, who caught the game winner at DVC, has four TDs on the season … The defense is anchored by Garrett Guanella (Cardinal Newman) and Mike Tuaua (Rancho Cotate). The former has 7½ tackles and the latter has seven. Each has two sacks … “Tuaua is playing at a different level than the other guys,” coach Keith Simons said.
The pick: Santa Rosa JC 28, Sacramento 17
