SSU soccer: Curtin, Varnadore players of the week

Another stellar series of Sonoma State soccer wins has earned conference player of the week honors for the women’s Cara Curtin and the men’s Taylor Varnadore.

Curtin, a junior from Maria Carrillo High, booted two goals and assisted on another pair as Sonoma State defeated San Francisco State and Cal Poly Pomona to stay perfect on the season.

Curtin has seven goals and 18 points — both figures tops in the California Collegiate Athletic Association — through six games.
Sonoma State was ranked sixth in last week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II poll. The Seawolves are 6-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The WILSON/CCAAplayer-of-the-week honor was the fourth for Varnadore in his two-plus seasons at Sonoma State.

The junior from Analy High scored the first goal in both of SSU’s shutout victories and assisted on the only other goal scored this past weekend. Varnadore has six goals on the season, tops in the CCAA, and also leads the conference in points with 15.
Defeating both San Francisco State and Cal Poly Pomona at home, Sonoma State improved to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
