A look at Saturday's area high school and college football games:
ANALY (5-0) at PINER (1-4)
Kickoff: 1:15 p.m.
Last week: Analy defeated Sonoma Valley, 63-20. Piner lost at Petaluma, 13-12.
Notable: The two starting quarterbacks have combined for 26 touchdown passes … Analy’s Darin Newman has 15 (seven caught by Aaron Maher) while Piner’s Noel Hernandez has 13 (four by Natu Hezchias) … The Tigers also have a strong running game with sophomore Ja’narrick James averaging eight yards per touch and Kyle Lewis nearly seven … On the punt team James is averaging 18 yards per return … Analy is picking up 441 yards of offense per game, 259 through the air and 182 on the ground … Zavi Ginella, who is the co-leader in tackles with Trent Ackerman, also has three fumbles recoveries and four sacks … Piner is on a four-game skid after opening the season with a win over San Rafael.

RINCON VALLEY CHRISTIAN (4-1) at MENDOCINO ( 3-0)
Kickoff: 1 p.m.
Last week: RVC won at Round Valley, 36-6. Mendocino won by forfeit over Point Arena.
Notable: Rincon Valley’s defensive unit has yielded only a touchdown to each of its last two opponents and that’s an accomplishment in eight-man football … On offense, running back Brandon Douglas is on his way to a 1,000-yard season. He’s rushed for 515 going into this game … Mendocino owns wins over Stuart Hall (54-14) and Potter Valley (51-22).

ST. VINCENT (3-1) at CALIFORNIA SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF (3-1)
Kickoff: 2 p.m.
Last week: St. Vincent defeated Stellar Prep, 51-7. CSD lost to Upper Lake, 20-3.
Notable: The visitors feature a balanced offense, averaging 183 on the ground and 146 through the air … Derek Murphy and George Sammon are the Mustangs’ rushing leaders … QB Mitch Sheppard has completed 42 of 70 with eight TDs … Arman Yektaparast is the leading receiver with 13 catches, four of those for touchdowns … CSD has played one other Redwood Empire team defeating Calistoga, 35-29 … Home field a big edge.

LAYTONVILLE (3-0) at ROUND VALLEY (0-1)
Kickoff: 1:30 p.m.
Last week: Laytonville walloped Anderson Valley, 72-0. Round Valley lost to Rincon Valley Christian, 36-6.
Notable: The Warriors’ average winning margin is 50 … The defense, led by Dylan Rosenthal, has shut out two opponents and allowed 20 to the other … QB Russel Kaser has completed 17 passes, seven of those for TDs … Rosenthal has hauled in five of the scoring passes … On the ground, Brandon Sutherland is averaging eight yards per rush and has scored seven TDs … Round Valley got a late start on the season because nearby wildfires made it impossible to practice.

SANTA ROSA JC (2-2) at FRESNO CITY COLLEGE (3-1)
Kickoff: 6 p.m.
Last week: SRJC lost to American River, 42-28. Fresno was beaten by San Francisco, 35-31.
Notable: Fresno comes in ranked No. 6 in Northern California and Santa Rosa is No. 13 … San Francisco is No. 1 and the Rams still can’t believe they lost to that foe last Saturday. At one point, Fresno led 28-0. S.F. finally took the lead with nine seconds remaining on a six-yard TD pass … Like Fresno, the Bear Cubs had a second-half lead but allowed 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter … The Rams are averaging 34 points per game, the same as the Bear Cubs … Garrett Guanella (Cardinal Newman) and Mike Tuaua (Rancho Cotate) have been excellent on defense. The former leads the team with 35 total tackles while the latter has 32 and five sacks … Coach Keith Simons has been using three quarterbacks — starter David Sowards, Christian McAlvain (Windsor) and Mike Pierson (El Molino) … This is Santa Rosa’s final game before the start of NorCal Conference play.
