Philip Wright and Kenny Carter combined for six touchdowns as unbeaten Cardinal Newman defeated visiting Santa Rosa, 49-12, Friday night.
The first of Wright four scores was a 96-yard kickoff return in the first quarter. Moments earlier, Santa Rosa had taken a 6-0 lead on an 18-yard fumble recovery by Jeremiah Otten.
Wright's final three TDs came on short runs.
Carter scored the game's final touchdowns on a pair of 14-yard runs.
Carter finished the night with 149 yards on 14 carries. Wright wound up with 20 yards on five touches.
The Panthers took a 12-7 lead in the waning moments of the first quarter on a 3-yard run by Jahray Hayes.
Newman assumed control of the game by outscoring Santa Rosa 14-0 in the second quarter. Quarterback Keaton Dunsford connected with Jacob Webb on a 24-yard scoring play and Wright scored on a 3-yard run.
Cardinal Newman is now 6-0 and 3-0 in the NBL. Santa Rosa falls to 2-4 and 0-3.
