Football: Saturday's high school and JC previews

SANTA ROSA JC (1-2, 3-5) at
SAN FRANCISCO (8-0, 3-0)
Kickoff: 1 p.m.

Last week: Santa Rosa lost to De Anza, 34-31. San Francisco won at Foothill, 51-13.

Notable: San Francisco is the top-ranked team in the state and last year the Rams were voted national champs … This season, SF is averaging 46 points per game and 463 yards of offense … Running back Kristoffer Olugbode averages 142 yards per game, easily tops in the NorCal Conference. He’s scored 14 touchdowns … Bear Cubs coach Keith Simons was asked what his team must do to be competitive: “We have to contain their running back (Olugbode) and keep their slot wide receivers contained by getting better tackling from our entire defense. On offense, we have to run the ball well enough to keep their defensive line guessing and we need another strong game from QB David Sowards.” … Last Saturday, Sowards threw for 458 yards and three TDs … Santa Rosa has the lowest rushing average — 75 yards per game — in the conference … Garrett Guanella is fourth in the conference with 65 tackles and Mike Tuaua is third in sacks with seven.

The pick: San Francisco 42, Santa Rosa 21

ELSIE ALLEN (0-8, 0-5) at
PINER (3-6, 2-3)
Kickoff: 1:15 p.m.

Last week: Elsie Allen lost to Sonoma Valley, 51-0. Piner won at El Molino, 41-0.

Notable: A victory would giv7e the Prospectors a 3-3 league record and make them eligible for the NCS playoffs. They would find out Sunday if they made it onto the 16-team Division 3 bracket … “It would be great for the program,” coach John Antonio said. “Whether it’s going to happen, I don’t know. We’re keeping our fingers crossed.” … Piner hasn’t participated in NCS since 2003 … QB Noel Hernandez likely has the top passing numbers in the Redwood Empire. The junior has thrown for 2,487 yards which comes to 276 yards per game.

The pick: Piner 55, Elsie Allen 7

TOMALES (5-4, 3-3) at
UPPER LAKE (5-4, 4-2)
Kickoff: 2 p.m.

Last week: Tomales lost to Calistoga, 33-14. Upper Lake fell to St. Vincent, 42-6.

Notable: At midseason, it looked like these two schools would battle for the North Central League II title. However, both come into this game on two-game losing streaks … Upper Lake owns a win over league champ, California School for the Deaf, while Tomales lost to that rival, 17-14 … Anthony Feliciano continues to carry the Tomales offense. He gains an average of 150 yards per game and has scored 16 touchdowns.

The pick: Upper Lake 26, Tomales 21

ANDERSON VALLEY (2-5, 2-3) at
POINT ARENA (3-5, 2-4)
Kickoff: 2 p.m.

Last week: Anderson Valley won by forfeit over Round Valley. Point Arena lost at Rincon Valley Christian, 44-28.

Notable: These schools play each other twice each season. The first meeting is the Apple Bowl and on September 14, Point Arena prevailed at Anderson Valley, 52-18 … Last year, the Pirates captured both meetings … Point Arena enters this game on a three-game losing streak.

The pick: Point Arena 41, Anderson Valley 27
