NCS boys soccer: Anderson Valley advances to Div. 3 title game

In a game that wasn’t as close as the final score, the Anderson Valley boys soccer team defeated visiting Fremont Christian, 2-0, to advance to the finals of the NCS Division 3 playoffs.

The Panthers will play the winner of Wednesday night's game between South Fork and Leadership for the Div. 3 title on Saturday.

The Panthers got first half goals from Juan Lui and Edson Ferreyra and goalkeeper Christian Mendoza picked up the shutout.
Anderson Valley mounted 30 attacks while the Warriors threatened only five times.

“We totally dominated from beginning to end,” winning coach Steve Sparks said. “We missed a lot of scoring opportunities and in the second half, our intensity went down.

“This group has a tendency to get lax and I’ve talked to them about it a lot. You let a team stay in the game and sometimes the momentum shifts.”

Lui scored the first goal after he took a pass from Fernando Ferreyra and kicked it in from 20 yards.

Edson Ferreyra’s goal was unassisted. He got possession of the ball at the back of the penalty box and his kick was a clean winner.

No. 2 seed Anderson Valley, from the NCL II, will take a 12-6-3 record into the title game. No. 11 Fremont Christian of the Bay Counties League winds up 16-8-1.
