JC football: SRJC hosts College of San Mateo in season finale

COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO (5-4, 1-3) at
SANTA ROSA JC (3-6, 1-3)
Kickoff: 1 p.m.

Last week: San Mateo lost at De Anza, 46-43 (OT). Santa Rosa fell to City College of San Francisco, 35-7.
Notable: This is the season finale for both teams and the winner will finish fourth in the seven-team NorCal Conference … San Mateo has lost three close games, including one to the state’s top team, CCSF. The final score of that one played in San Francisco was 41-38 … Besides the De Anza overtime loss, the Bulldogs were edged by San Joaquin Delta, 29-28 … San Mateo began the year 4-0 and is currently on a 0-3 slide … Santa Rosa has lost its last two … Christian McAlvain, who quarterbacked Windsor to an NCS title, will play wide receiver today and figures prominently in the Bear Cubs’ game plan … San Mateo runs the triple option and has one of the best offenses in the state (34 points per game). To win the game, coach Keith Simons said: “We have to get off the field defensively on third down and our defensive line has to play up to their ability. On offense, the line has to play a lot better than last week. Those guys are the key to our success every game.”

The pick: College of San Mateo 42, Santa Rosa JC 35
