Challenged in a competitive conference, Randy Wright had another strong season at quarterback for UC Davis.
In his third campaign as the Aggies’ starting signal caller, Wright threw 13 touchdown passes, completed 57.3 percent of his passes and averaged nearly 200 yards a game. The former Cardinal Newman standout had a 117.5 passer rating.
UC Davis finished 4-7, including 3-5 in the Big Sky Conference. The Aggies moved into the tough conference that sent three teams to the NCAA Division I FCS playoffs.
Wright, a junior, posted numbers comparable to his previous two seasons as the UC Davis starter.
A highlight this past season was earning Big Sky Conference offensive player of the week honors. Wright was recognized after throwing for 309 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Idaho State.
An All-State quarterback at Cardinal Newman, Wright led the Cardinals to the North Coast Section Division 2 title as a senior in 2008. Cardinal Newman’s only loss that season was in the California Interscholastic Federation Division 3 championship bowl game to St. Bonaventure of Ventura.
