Willits’ girls basketball team moved a step closer to the North Central League I title Tuesday night as the Wolverines rallied to defeat host Cloverdale, 48-41.
Willits trailed by five points heading into the fourth and outscored the Eagles, 17-5, in the quarter.
The win puts the Wolverines two games in front of the NCL pack with three to play.
Alicia Mehtlan led the winners with 25 points and 14 rebounds. In her three-year varsity career, the senior has now scored 1,024 points.
Samantha DelBello contributed 14, including eight in the crucial final quarter.
Both Mehtlan and DelBello fouled out in the final minutes.
A total of 43 fouls were whistled, 22 of those on Willits.
Madison Stewart led Cloverdale with 15 points followed by Angel Bernardi with 11 and Jasmin Orozco 10.
“We pressed the second half,” winning coach Eric Mehtlan said. “It looked like the pressure caused them (Cloverdale) to be a little off-balance.”
Willits improved to 17-6 and 11-0 in league.
Cloverdale has lost two league games, both to the Wolverines.
