Baseball: Casa Grande dumps state powerhouse Campolindo 9-3


Zack Shimek had three hits and Francis Christy belted a two-run home run Tuesday to lead Casa Grande to a 9-3 baseball win over preseason Northern California No. 1 Campolindo in Moraga.

Campolindo was rated tops in NorCal by, 18th in the United States. The Cougars, winners of three straight North Coast Section titles, were rated sixth in California by Cal-Hi Sports. Casa Grande was ranked No. 12 in the NorCal poll.

Shimek singled and Christy belted his home run to tie the game 2-2 in the second inning. After plating two runs in the third, Casa extended the lead on Shimek’s single, an intentional walk to Christy and a double by Tyler Moore to make it 5-2.

Casa Grande (5-1) scored four times in the seventh. Iggy Llorence had an RBI single. Charlie Parnow and Shimek had doubles.

Anthony Bender pitched three innings of scoreless relief to get the win. Cal-bound left-hander Matt Ladrech was the loser for 1-3 Campolindo, which has three losses to teams ranked in the top 25 in Northern California.
