Analy and Santa Rosa JC grad Kevin Aronis has made it to the NCAA Tournament as a member of the New Mexico State Aggies.

Aronis (above) will be in action Thursday when the WAC champions take on No. 4 St. Louis in the Midwest Regionals at San Jose. New Mexico State got the No. 13 seed.

Two other former Santa Rosa JC players — Sama Taku and Lorenzo McCloud — will also be competing in the Big Dance. The pair start for University of Pacific. The Tigers, the No. 15 seed, drew No. 2 Miami in Friday’s East Regional at Austin, Tex.

UOP got its ticket stamped by defeating UC Irvine, 64-55, in the Big West championship. McCloud, who hails from Los Angeles, averaged 11 points this season while Taku, who is from Tucson, Ariz., hit at an eight-point per game clip.

Aronis, whose family lives in Sebastopol, was an All-Empire first team selection in his senior season at Analy. He was also selected All-Sonoma County League twice.

The 6-foot-3 guard was first team All-Big Eight Conference last year for SRJC.

In his first season at New Mexico State, Aronis averaged three points per game. Coming off the bench, he made 31 shots from beyond the arc and scored 106 points.

The Aggies earned a tournament berth by defeating Texas-Arlington, 64-55, in the WAC title game Saturday night.

Sim Bhullar, the tallest player in the NCAA Tournament at 7-foot-5, is one of Aronis’ teammates.
