Empire high school baseball teams wrap up non-league play with a pair of tournaments this week.
With most schools on spring break, baseball teams are packing in play at the tournaments hosted by Montgomery and Casa Grande.
The A.L. Rabinovitz event opens with eight games today at sites across Sonoma County. The championship and consolation finals are Thursday at Montgomery High School. Each team gets in three games.
The 19th annual Rabinovitz tournament has a strong field, with defending champion Northgate and last year’s runner-up Petaluma, as well as Analy, Chico, Santa Rosa, Ukiah, Windsor and Montgomery.
Casa Grande hosts the Adam Westcott Memorial Tournament. Three games are set each day, Thursday through Saturday, guaranteeing teams three contests.
Defending champion Healdsburg returns, joined by Cardinal Newman, Eureka, Maria Carrillo, Sonoma Valley and last season’s runner-up Casa Grande.
An added feature in both tournaments is the opportunity for one-time league rivals to face one another. Casa Grande and Windsor moved to the North Bay League from the Sonoma County League beginning this season.
