A roller coaster Sonoma County League championship meet, Petaluma's

emergence as a big-time tournament player, Montgomery's fourth North Bay

League championship in five seasons and two state tournament placers from

Healdsburg highlighted this season's Empire wrestling scene.

Petaluma, which won the North Coast Section dual meet tournament and four

others, upset Healdsburg to win an SCL championship, with help from Windsor,

which finished second at the league meet and pushed Healdsburg to third.

Healdsburg was still the smallest school in enrollment to place in the top-10

at NCS with a seventh place finish.

And it was the Grehounds' Porfirio Madrigal and Mitchell Arreguin who went

the furthest at state, Arreguin finishing sixth and Madrigal seventh in their

respective weight classes.

Briona Hendren continued her impressive wrestling ways for Rancho Cotate.

Not only did the junior win an NCS title, but she regularly beat boys in

league in her weight class and lost a close championship match at the NBL

boys' title meet, finishing second at 114 pounds.
