Men’s golf: Seawolves in 17th place at NCAA Division II regionals

Sonoma State recovered to shoot par in the second round of the men’s golf regional, but remains in a deep hole going into the final day of play.

Led by Eric Ash, the Seawolves had the ninth-best score on Tuesday at The Home Course, in Dupont, Wash. Despite the improvement, Sonoma State remains in 17th place in the 20-team field.

The top five teams at the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional advance to the national championships. Also moving on are the top two individuals not on qualifying squads.

Ash will try and finish in that twosome. The sophomore, from Loomis, shot a sterling 67 in round two. Ash tied with three others for low score on the day. Also pacing Sonoma State is Steven Warne, out of El Molino high.

Sonoma State is making its seventh regionals appearance in the past eight seasons, winning one in 2008. Sonoma State took the NCAA title in 2009.
