SRJC baseball: Bear Cubs hosting CCCAA playoff

Staying home for another round of state baseball playoffs, Santa Rosa Junior College hosts a four-team regional Friday through Sunday.

Santa Rosa — the NorCal top seed in the state playoffs — opens the double-elimination tournament against Solano, No. 14 in the region at 11 a.m. Friday. In the other opener, Chabot at No. 5 plays San Joaquin Delta, the No. 6 seed in the region, at 3 p.m. Friday.

Both games Friday are set for Santa Rosa’s home field. Some games this weekend will also be played at Cardinal Newman High School.

In the opening round, Santa Rosa won two of three from Los Medanos.

The California Community College Athletic Association tournament has 16 teams remaining, split between Southern California and Northern California.

The top seed was awarded to Santa Rosa after winning the Big 8 Conference, one of the state’s toughest. The Bear Cubs last won the state title in 2005.
