Grabbing the final spot in the conference tournament, Sonoma State looks to stay in contention for an NCAA baseball playoff berth.

Sonoma State opens play against Cal State Monterey Bay today at the California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament in Stockton.

The four-team tournament features the West region’s best in Cal State Monterey Bay, also ranked fourth in NCAA Division II. Sonoma State is second in the region.

Today’s other opener has Cal State Los Angeles, seventh in the West, against Chico State, four in the region and 13th in the nation.

The double elimination tournament continues through Saturday and, if necessary, into Sunday.

Sonoma State has appeared in the conference tournament six of the past seven seasons. The Seawolves reached the NCAA Division II world series in 2011 and 2008.
