1. CASA GRANDE (24-2)

Gauchos have won 16 one-run games. Francis Christy voted NBL most valuable player.

2. MARIA CARRILLO (17-8)

Regular season runner-up in tough NBL. Also had second-best overall record among teams in league.

3. CARDINAL NEWMAN (14-12)

Record not that great but in past two weeks, Cardinals knocked off Casa Grande and Maria Carrillo.

4. ANALY (20-5)

Tigers’ lone loss against an SCL opponent came in first round of league tournament when Sonoma Valley beat them, 4-1.

5. SONOMA VALLEY (17-9)

A hot team coming into NCS. Dragons have won four straight including the SCL Tournament.

LARGE SCHOOL SOFTBALL

1. PETALUMA (24-1)

Trojans didn’t look sharp defeating Analy in SCL title game. Will need to play better in order to win NCS Division 2 for second time in three years.

2. MARIA CARRILLO (19-5)

Pumas begin NCS on a 12-game winning streak. Allowed 36 runs in 14 games while winning NBL.

3. SANTA ROSA (16-7)

Lone Empire team competing in NCS Division 1. Panthers travel to San Ramon Valley (13-11) on Wednesday.

4. RANCHO COTATE (14-9)

Cougars own 8-1 mark at home but open NCS on the road where their record is 6-5.

5. CASA GRANDE (14-10)

Gauchos take .326 team batting average into playoffs.

SMALL SCHOOL BASEBALL

1. ST. HELENA (19-5)

Captured NCL I title by four games but got no love from NCS selection committee. Saints the No. 6 seed in Division 4.

2. KELSEYVILLE (15-9)

Finished second in NCL I and was seeded No. 7 in NCS.

3. ST. VINCENT (18-4)

Pitching staff, led by Dusty Oliver, allowed only 15 earned runs in 10 NCL II games.

4. CLEAR LAKE (14-10)

Sophomore Cole Brodnansky hitting .414 heading into post season. Joey Blair (1.19 ERA) is the ace of pitching staff.

5. FORT BRAGG (11-11)

Ended season with win over Kelseyville and 8-6 league record.

SMALL SCHOOL SOFTBALL

1. CLOVERDALE (20-3)

Eagles outscored foes in NCL I by a 172-19 margin. Freshman Teanne Edens’ ERA is 1.40.

2. CLEAR LAKE (16-6)

In last five games, all wins, pitching staff allowed only five runs.

3. ST. VINCENT (14-8)

Tough non-league schedule (six NBL and two SCL opponents) has Mustangs ready for NCS Division 5.

4. LOWER LAKE (18-6)

Pitcher Shelbie Harris top strikeout pitcher in NCL I with 124 Ks. Sophomore also stole league-best 18 bases.

5. MIDDLETOWN (10-11)

Got into NCS Division 5 as No. 13 seed. So far, highlight of season is victory over Cloverdale.
