SRJC swimmers earn All-American honors

Santa Rosa Junior College swimmer Alexandria Holland has another feather in her swim cap — along with 15 of her Bear Cubs teammates.

Holland, the Maria Carrillo grad who set a California state junior-college record in the 100-meter individual medley (57.67 seconds) and was honored for the Women’s Performance of the Meet at the CCCAA Swimming and Diving State Championships in late April, is one of 16 SRJC athletes announced as Community College Swimming and Diving All-Americans this week.

Joining Holland on the women’s All-America list were Karissa DeRousseau (Maria Carrillo), Codie Cox (Maria Carrillo), Meghan O’Rourke (Montgomery), Erin Sullivan (Montgomery), Kayla Strand, Allison Straus (Cardinal Newman), Jillian Patalano (Windsor) and Brianna Thompson.

On the men’s side, the All-Americans included Alex Xu (Casa Grande), Nicolas Suissa, Stuart Quiroga (Healdsburg), Andrew Hayes, Collin Giddings (Windsor), Clark Hale (El Molino) and Travis West.

Holland, DeRousseau, Cox, O’Rourke, Sullivan, Strand, Xu, Suissa and Quiroga also are academic All-Americans.

The Bear Cubs women finished fourth in the team standings at the CCCAA championships, while the men claimed the Big 8 Conference title this year.
