SR United teams playing in national tournament

FC Virginia National scored with less than five minutes to play to forge a 1-1 tie with Santa Rosa United’s under-15 Freeze team Friday on the first day of the Elite Clubs National League playoff tournament at Aurora, Colo.

The Freeze had taken a 1-0 lead earlier in the 55th minutes on a goal by Taylor Ziemer, who will be a sophomore at Montgomery High this fall.

The team plays again today in the Champions League tournament, which determines the eight finalists for the ECNL Finals next month in Virginia.

In the North American tournament Friday at Aurora, Santa Rosa United’s U16 Blizzard team tied 1-1 and the U17 Shock lost 1-0.

ARNOLD JUST OUTSIDE TOP 10 IN USA DECATHLON
Jake Arnold was in 11th place at the halfway point of the decathlon competition at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Arnold, a graduate of Maria Carrillo High School, will complete the 10-event decathlon schedule today.

He had sixth-place finishes in the shot put and high jump Friday, his best places of the day.
