Maria Carrillo second baseman Andrew Vaughn has been selected to try out for the USA Baseball 15U National Team.

Coming off his freshman season, Vaughn is among 40 players nationally invited to the 2013 team trials running Saturday through Thursday at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

The final team of 20 players will compete in the COPABE AA/15U Pan American Championships.

The series is set for July 26-Aug. 4 in Barranquilla, Colombia. Nearly half of the players selected for the USA Baseball trials participated in the inaugural USA Baseball 14U National Team Development Program. Vaughn was among those in the program.

In prep play, Vaughn helped lead Maria Carrillo into the North Coast Section playoffs. Vaughn batted .309 with four doubles and 12 RBIs. Vaughn also pitched for the Pumas.
