Rohnert Park’s 9-under all-stars are off to a 2-0 start in the Pacific Southwest Regional tournament in Midvale, Utah. Rohnert Park beat Scottsdale, Ariz. 12-0 on Tuesday in the second day of pool play. The Empire stars downed host Riverton, Utah, 9-0, on Monday.
Pool play will conclude today when Rohnert Park plays Spanish Springs, Nev. before entering single-elimination action.
“All 11 players contributed in the two wins,” said manager Keith McCoy. “Virtually everybody had a hit and contributed offensively in the first game.” Aidan Hickman, Tanner Starrett, Elijah Stevenson, Carson Crawford, Russell Freedheim, Jack Bandy, Ryan Kane, Cameron Duran, Brody Smith, Jake McCoy and Michael O’Daniel had hits or otherwise paced the attack against Riverton. Freedheim was chosen Most Valuable Player for the game. He went 3-for-3 at bat. He was the starting pitcher and threw 31 strikes in 37 pitches over two innings.
Crawford was chosen MVP against Scottsdale. He gave up just one hit in three innings pitched and had a basehit.
