Rohnert Park scores 23 runs in U9 regionals

Rohnert Park defeated Spanish Springs, Nev., 23-13 on Wednesday to remain undefeated in the Cal Ripken League Baseball Under-9 Pacific Southwest Regionals championship in Midvale, Utah.

Michael O’Daniel was selected Most Valuable Player of the game for Rohnert Park. He went 3-for-3 with two triples and six RBIs.

“Everybody just crushed the ball, obviously, scoring 23 runs,” said Rohnert Park manager Keith McCoy. “It was another team effort.”

Rohnert Park qualified to advance from pool play into the single-elimination portion of the tournament that begins Friday. The club finishes pool play today against Southern Utah.

Handling the pitchers with single-elimination play just ahead is key for McCoy.

“We want to win every game, but it’s really important for us to conserve our pitching to be as competitive as we can be in the single-elimination play,” McCoy said. “We’re doing fine with our pitching. We used four different pitchers today. Tomorrow, we’ll look at things and decide what to do. We’re already in the single-elimination bracket whether we win or lose tomorrow.”
