Softball: Easton Elite lose in ASA Gold tournament

The Sneaky Cleats from Tyler, Texas, put together a five-run second inning and cruised to a 9-1 victory Wednesday against the Easton Elite in the first round of bracket play at the American Softball Association 18U Gold national championship tournament in Clearwater, Fla.

The Easton Elite, comprising a roster of standout players from Sonoma, Marin and Napa counties, dropped into the losers’ bracket of the double-elimination tournament and will face Tropic Wave of Florida today.

Petaluma High School’s Brie Gerhardt accounted for the Easton Elite’s run with an RBI single in the sixth inning. Gerhardt’s Petaluma teammate Dana Thomsen was the starting and losing pitcher for Easton Elite. She was victimized in the five-run second inning by three errors.
